How were the 19 ballots chosen for the handwriting expert from the county? (they are not the ones pictured here)
Candidates were directed by the board to choose them at the spur of the moment. They were chosen one precinct at a time, one set of ballots covering 2 rectangular tables at a time, in a hurry. Candidates were not allowed by the Board of Canvassers to compare ballots from other precincts. The candidates chose ballots they thought they had seen over and over, as templates.
